Mulindi Tea Factory has completed a major upgrade, doubling its processing capacity and adding orthodox tea production lines.
Mulindi Tea Factory, one of Rwanda's oldest tea processing facilities, has completed a $3 million modernization project. The upgrade includes new withering troughs, a state-of-the-art CTC processing line, and the factory's first orthodox tea production capability.
The investment is expected to increase the factory's annual capacity from 3,500 to 7,000 metric tonnes of made tea. The addition of orthodox processing allows Mulindi to tap into the growing European specialty tea market, where single-origin orthodox teas from Rwanda command prices up to 40% higher than CTC grades.
