The Nyungwe Tea Trail, a collaborative project between RTA and RDB, has been named the Best Agritourism Experience in Africa for 2026.
The Nyungwe Tea Trail has been recognized at the African Tourism Leadership Forum as the continent's best agritourism experience. The trail, which winds through the tea plantations surrounding Nyungwe Forest National Park, offers visitors guided tours of tea gardens, factory visits, and traditional tea-tasting sessions.
Developed as a joint initiative between the Rwanda Tea Association and the Rwanda Development Board, the trail has attracted over 8,000 visitors since its launch in 2024. Revenue from the trail supports local cooperatives and funds school feeding programs in the surrounding communities.
RDB CEO Clare Akamanzi praised the project as "a model for how agricultural heritage can drive sustainable tourism and community development."
